Udupi: One-way traffic on the national highway was suddenly closed near Ambalapadi junction on Tuesday morning to install a name plate, causing a traffic jam on the adjacent service road.
Although permission was obtained to install the nameplate, motorists expressed their anger that the contractor suddenly blocked the highway without informing the local traffic police before carrying out the work.
Apatbhandhava Vishu Shetty, on hearing the information, immediately rushed to the spot and not only informed the traffic police, but also stood by himself till they reached the spot and worked hard for the smooth movement of vehicles.
2 solid lorries anchored on the adjacent service road had to be cleared before the National Highway was closed. Proper precautions and safety measures should have been taken. The work had to be done after the traffic police arrived. The contractor has not done that either. Social worker Vishu Shetty said that as a result of sudden vehicles entering the service road, there was a traffic jam and emergency vehicles including three ambulances were stuck.
