Lack of subsidized diesel: boats anchored in Malpe harbour

Udupi: Due to non-supply of subsidized diesel, hundreds of boats are anchored at Malpe port.If the fishing boats do not get diesel on time, fishing will not take place. The government is supplying 1.50 lakh kl tax-free diesel from April to March. Due to the end of the annual quota, Feb. No diesel available in any of the bunks since 14th. In this background, most of the boats did not go for fishing, causing a loss of crores of rupees.

In this year’s budget, the government has announced 50 lakh KL of additional subsidy diesel. But it will be available in April. Therefore, the fishermen have no other choice but to anchor their boats in the port and stop fishing.
